On All Saints Sunday, we celebrate the lives of our loved ones who have passed on to Heaven. Through their hard work and dedication to us, they leave behind a legacy that reflects God's love.
And sometimes that love comes in the form of chicken nuggets. Dozens of them. Hundreds of them.
Meet John - a member of our congregation at Middleburg United Methodist Church, who was fondly known as "The Chicken Nugget Man."
Ask any child in our Sunday School class about John, and their eyes light up. John was known for stopping by McDonalds every Sunday on his way to church and purchasing the largest serving of chicken nuggets available.
He'd arrive early, set them in the kitchen, and wait for the reactions from our hungry Sunday School students once class let out. There would be shrieks, laughter and always the call for "more ketchup please!"
We all share lunch together as a congregation every Sunday, each bringing a dish to pass. Despite the amazing artisan breads, fried chicken and homemade desserts that grace our buffet tables each week, John's contribution of chicken nuggets built him a legacy of kindness, sacrifice, and love for the children in our congregation.
Like several members of our beloved church family, John made his journey to Heaven a few months ago. While each loss is uniquely profound for our MUMC family, their lives and their love for God form their legacy - and now ours.
Thessalonians is a clear reminder that in our walk of faith, the Word of God is passed on by older generations and their contributions. Their love brings us back to God's table every day.
